Idolatry in the Gospels

Idolatry is a huge topic of the Old Testament, but the New Testament is surprisingly silent regarding the matter. With such few references we might be led to believe it no longer was a problem. However, within the New Testament are subtle, yet powerful, allusions to the problem of idolatry which reveal it remained a problem in those days just as it was before.
