"The Lion Standing Over The Body"

It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the mouth of Jehovah.
1 Samuel 13.26

Driving down the road, you will occasionally see the dead carcass of an animal. It represents what an animal does not understand. No matter how swift an animal may be, it does not always escape the punishment of crossing a highway. Animals suffer from not understanding the laws of crossing a road in front of moving vehicles. Animals do not know if you step out in front of an automobile traveling down the road, there is no escape of injury or death.

Some people have tried similar actions with their animals. They go out into the forest or woodlands where these animals live and are killed by a fierce predator. The adventurous people never believe they would be victims of animals’ wrath, strength, and fury. Trying to “manhandle” an animal of such aggression is nothing for which hours of Tae Kwon Do training is able to overcome. Those who find the individual stand over the body wondering why this person was there among the wild animals. Was he or she unprepared for what might happen?

A lion killed a young prophet because of his disobedience to the voice of God. This was what was told to the men in the city who saw the lion standing by the prophet’s body. The evidence was clear. The man was no match for the lion. The dead body revealed that the power of the lion was greater than the power of the man.

We know of “the roaring lion” who is “walking about seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5.8). It is Satan. The power which Satan possesses is often not within our realm of comprehension. “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood.” Let that point sink in for a moment. Satan is not fought with a sword, a fist, a gun, or a bomb. “…But against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6.12).

Not realizing the power and destructive force of Satan, many have encountered him. He has slain thousands, and after destroying them with temptation after temptation, he stands by their body of sin. As people walk by and see, they notice the tragedy. They see how sin has engulfed the life of the one who has fallen, “dead in trespasses and sin” (Ephesians 2.1-3). What could those who see this “death” think about the soul who has come against a power greater than he could withstand? Was he not prepared? Did he not expect this would be the result once he yielded to the first temptation? What will others think of him now? Some will understand why all this happened. They did not prepare or protect themselves. They thought their personal skills and experience with difficult circumstances would help them overcome. There was not enough power in their bodies to keep from being pinned down by the flood and winds of temptations and trials Satan placed in their way. They never thought about a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10.13).

Do not allow yourself to become the next victim (Ephesians 6.10-17).
