No Visiting!

You have probably seen a sign in a hospital posted on a patient’s door with the words “NO VISITING” on it. Additionally, you may see the words, “Please see the Nurses’ Desk.” Some patients and their families are quite serious about the matter with a sign which reads, “Absolutely, Positively NO VISITORS.” Can people not respect the authority of the words and be satisfied? Some visitors come in anyway, regardless of what the sign says...

People have the same attitude toward God’s authority as they do with the sign reading “NO VISITORS.” They believe there is an exception to the rule for them. God will overlook my actions where He may not overlook the actions of others.

Was it not Nadab and Abihu who set aside God’s authority and offered strange fire (Leviticus 10:1,2)? Was it not Moses who set aside God’s authority and struck the rock instead of speaking to it (Numbers 20:7-13)? Did Israel not set aside the majesty of God and offer sacrifices unto a molten image (Exodus 32)? Did God overlook their disregard for His authority? Was the “sign” not clear enough? Should God have said, “Positively” or “Absolutely?”

“Positively” and “Absolutely” are not found in the Bible, but are inferred in every statement and command of God. What God said should be enough!
