Keeping Your Child In Touch With God

What is your greatest concern for your child? Is it whether they will have enough money to eat lunch at school or have an honest reputation? Is it their popularity among friends or pleasing God? Is it making the all-star team or being a Christian in the church?

If your sincere and loving interest in your child is their spirituality and commitment to God, then how do you attempt to achieve that goal? When there are more things and influences upon your child to keep them away from God, what is your plan to keep them in touch with God?

The first thing you must do is identify all the sources Satan has and will use to make a “convert” out of your child. Friends, phones, internet, music, TV, movies, and negative family  attitudes, plus other sources must be looked at objectively as possible causes (Matthew 16:26), and put away.

Second, allow the religion you believe in to be something you live in. Your child’s commitment to God is often only as deep as your faith is (1 Timothy 4:16). How can you expect something from them you are not willing to do yourself (Matthew 21:28-32)?

Third, daily exposure to the value of obedience without complaint. God gave many commands with the understanding of benefits of obedience (Deuteronomy 6:24). A parents should do so as well (Ephesians 6:1,2). This creates discipline a child needs to respond to God.
