Keeping Your Faith Alive (7)

Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth correction;

But he that regardeth reproof shall be honored.”

Proverbs 13:18

Heeding God’s correction is a valuable element in the maturity of your faith. No one likes to be corrected, but unless we are reproved, there will be no improvement.

God does not reprove us for fun. He is not out to ruin us. He corrects us out of love (Hebrews 12:5-11). Our Father wants to protect us from the disasters our selfishness and pride will create. The means through which He corrects us are His Word and our conscience. Our challenge is not to ignore the warnings.

Ignoring those who speak the truth to us or the scriptures which apply to us is dangerous. Forgetting words of reproof result in regret, ruined reputation, and a delight in sin. Where is the honor of that? Apologies, sorrow, and confession need to accompany reproof. Better it would be to change than to let your heart harden..

God’s correction is like a mirror. It reminds you when your life needs cleansing. It lets you know what needs washing (your clothes, attitude, mouth, or heart). If you see something needs to be changed, do it - for the sake of your faith.
