Something to Do

A child may get bored because “There is nothing to do.” A young dating couple may find their experience together is stale because “There is nothing to do.” A Christian may find himself losing his faith because “I don’t know what to do.”

The last time I noticed, several merchants are looking to put people to work. “Help Wanted” signs are posted all over town. A person can find a job. Just look. People needing work can find it. There is something to do.

Christians are blessed with opportunities to be molded into a “workmanship of God” (Ephesians 2.10). With these opportunities come the ability God provides through His grace for every disciple of Christ to work successfully in His kingdom (Romans 12.3). Romans 12.9-21 has a wonderful list of work to be done in the church. Along with this list is the exhortation to spread the gospel (Matthew 28.19-20; 2 Timothy 2.24-26). Prayers are to be offered (1 Thessalonians 5.17). Encouragement needs to be delivered (1 Thessalonians 5.11-14). Burdens need to be carried (Galatians 6.1-3). Scripture needs to be studied and applied (2 Timothy 2.15; 1 Timothy 4.16). Courage needs to be demonstrated (1 Peter 3.13-17). A Christian can always find something to do (Matthew 20.28).

The most wonderful part of all is, all of this work is not in vain. Its purpose is to glorify the God in heaven (Matthew 5.16). What God has assigned for His disciples to do is an endless, purposeful amount of good; good which brings no regret. It does not get you in trouble with the law (Galatians 5.22-23), and all the effort put into those good works is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15.58).

Do you have an eye for doing something? Can you look out and see what can be cone? If you are not ready to do something for God, you will not be looking. There is no reason for living a bored, stale, lazy, idle life. “Help Wanted” is what God needs in HIs kingdom and in the world. Search His word for your calling. God is ready to give you something to do.
