The Arms Of God

The eternal God is thy refuge,
and underneath are the everlasting arms:
and He shall thrust out the enemy from before thee;
and shall say, “Destroy them.”

Deuteronomy 33:27

These words were Moses’ blessing upon the tribes of Israel. What are God’s arms able to do?

They are enduring.

Everlasting arms.”

His arms never weaken. They never grow weary. They are eternal. No god can consistently provide what God has and always will. Nothing will prevail against Him (Romans 8:35-39).

They are embracing and supportive.

Underneath are the everlasting arms.”

God’s arms will always arrive to lift up a soul whose burdens are heavy. His arms will always be present to comfort, bear, and rescue His people. The world will pressure us to let go and “reach for the sky,” but who will help you when you fall? God is always there. He can help us recover. His grace will always be sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9). His arms are underneath to keep our faith from falling.

The are defensive.

He will thrust out the enemy from before you.”

Israel was to enter the land of Canaan and would immediately face heathen nations who must be driven out. God would give them power and ability to do so. It would take their faith to accomplish this task.

We daily face the greatest enemy in Satan, but Jesus went before us as the captain of our salvation (Hebrews 2:10). As soldiers of Christ, we are commissioned to put on the armor (Ephesians 6:10-13) with faith that we are “more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” Rely upon the arms of God.
