Some Young People

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an
example to them that believe, in word, in manner of life,
in love, in faith, in purity
1 Timothy 4:12

Some young people honor their parents. They appreciate their guidance and advice. These young people are students in school who respect the instruction of a teacher and the officers who patrol their community. They have learned rules are for one’s good, not to rid them of happiness. These young people are easily taught to respect the authority and law of God. The fear of our future is in the wrecking crew who knows how to complain, destroy, defame, defy, and rob. The hope of the future lies in the righteous, respectful youth of our land.

Some young people have self-respect. They shade themselves from the hurtful lusts that would destroy a life. They keep their distance from people who would deceive them into compromising actions that would cause hurt, pain, and embarrassment for themselves, family, friends, and the church. Others feel being “cool” is a matter of acceptance they cannot live without. Such thinking opens a door to changes in attitude, clothes, music, and religion. A family is blessed when a young person can say “NO” and stick with it.

Some young people are fortunate to have been raised and nurtured by parents since childhood by the “sacred writings”. These young people enter adulthood with “unfeigned faith”. They know of a God who is good, loving, and fair. Such knowledge of God humbles them to repentance when they sin. Others have never seen their parents open a Bible or pray. They think the Bible is a strange, old book. They have lived among dishonesty so long, when they make a mistake, they never think of repenting. They usually blame it on their parents or some element of society. Those young people who receive counsel from God’s word are the greatest blessing to their family, church, and society.

Some young people have a great knowledge of what God expects them to be. They know what God’s will is for their lives. They want to know more. They want to please God. They want to go to heaven. They know the sacrifices it will take to be all a Christian should be. Some parents are careless and assume their children will know the Bible. As a result, those children become indifferent and never know what the will of the Lord is (Ephesians 5:17).

Some young people have more knowledge of what is listed in the TV Guide than they do the fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23. The only way to deliver young people from evil is to teach and show them what is good. Young people who know God’s will know it pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Rather than having a heart that is only evil continually, young people need a heart which thinks on the things in Philippians 4:8 -- attitudes of virtue and praise.

Would it not be great if ALL young people had
these traits, rather than
