The Undenominational Nature Of The Church

The word “church” means “called out”. Those who have been “called out” of the world (Colossians 1:14) into the kingdom of God’s Son are the saved. These saved people are not a denomination. They are not part of a fraction or part of a whole. They compose the whole church of God. The church includes every saved person on earth. These people are saved by God and added to the church by God (Acts 2:41-47).

One of the unique traits of the church in the Bible is its singular reference. The scriptures refer to the church as “my church” (Matthew 16:180, “the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 3:2), and “the church, which is his body” (Ephesians 1:22,23). It is called “the body” (Ephesians 4:4); one body with many members and without division (1 Corinthians 12:20,25). The church is referred to as a bride subject to Christ, the one bridegroom (Ephesians 5:22-32).

What Does The Church Believe?

The only church I could speak of regarding their belief is the church where I am presently a member. I only know of what other churches believe by what I see them practice - “their fruits” (Matthew 7:16). What should be the foundation of a church’s belief is the authority of the New Testament. But it is not so with every church…

The church of which I am a member believes in glorifying God by wearing the name He gave to His people - “Christian” (Acts 11:26). It is a name exalting His Son. Therefore, the church believes a Christian should live above reproach. We do not say they are sinless, but their life is exemplary of a life lived by the Spirit and not by the works of the flesh (Romans 8:4-10; Galatians 5:16-23). Christians are to present their life in Christ (Galatians 2:20) as lights to the world (Philippians 2:15,16).

The church believes in worshipping God “in spirit and truth” (John 4:24). Their worship is not after the tradition of men or what pleases them (Matthew 15:8,9). The church believes in prayer, singing psalms and spiritual songs, teaching, partaking of the Lord’s Supper, and giving an offering unto God. All these activities are approved by God, not man, by either command or example of Christians in the New Testament (Colossians 3:17)...

The church believes it is sufficient to do everything God has assigned His people to do together. There is nothing other than the church, large or small, through which God’s work is to be done (Ephesians 3:10,11). To assume the need for a separate ministry or organization to do God’s work reflects on the wisdom of God and His design for the church…

Does this church or the church where you attend believe and practice God’s plan for the church?
