Is The Church Your Choice Or God's

Most people enjoy picking out their own cloths. Teenagers would rather get a gift card to Old Navy and go to the store themselves instead of someone buying clothes for them. People love the freedom of choice when it comes to ordering food at a restaurant and picking out a video from the video store. Such liberty to choose has found its way into what we like when it comes to religion.

The motto “Attend the church of your choice” has become sacred ground when speaking to someone about where they worship. “I like it.” “It suits our family.” “I love the music.” “They have so many children’s programs.” The reasons vary as to what attracts people to a church and most people will praise the choices we have. “Have it your way” is even the marketing approach some churches take today (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 2:1-5).

When you look at the above question biblically, there is no precedence given for a multiplicity of churches from which to choose. The Bible says Jesus is the “head over all things to the church, which is his body(Ephesians 1:22-23), and “there is one body (church)” (Ephesians 4:4).

The choice of a church has already been made. God made the decision, not me, not you. Therefore, we are all accountable to God to make His choice our choice. It is time you made the decision to be part of the Church for which Christ died – The Church of Christ (Romans 16:16).
